More and more cultivators have become familiar with the notions of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as a practical way to make cost effective decisions to manage pests and diseases in their gardens. An additional area to apply similar concepts is Integrated Rootzone Management or IRM. IRM is comprehensive approach to creating and maintaining all interconnected elements and properties of the rootzone, physical, chemical and biological. A successful IRM program ensure optimized rootzone water, nutrients and oxygen levels within an appropriate temperature range, a healthy microflora while not being limited by abiotic and biotic stress. This discussion will explore some of these concepts and discuss monitoring frequency and validation techniques.

Senior Category Manager - Dried Flower @ Ontario Cannabis Store
Pete Shearer has had over 16 years of career experience in the cannabis industry. He currently holds the position of Senior Category Manager at the OCS (Ontario Cannabis Store).
Earlier in his career, Pete consulted on the design, construction, and operation of numerous MMAR medical cannabis facilities. During the advent of the MMPR commercial medical cannabis regulations in 2013, Pete operated as the principle consultant at Shearer Consulting which advised cannabis companies on cultivation and genetics strategies. From 2013 to 2020, Pete provided 7ACRES ongoing insight and advice. He was instrumental in the selection of the primary genetics used at 7ACRES.
In January of 2018, Pete took the role of Director of Product Development and Planning at The Supreme Cannabis Company. While working for Supreme he developed a system to evaluate and grade the quality of dried cannabis flower based on sensory evaluation called The Shearer Grading Scale™. The Shearer Scale is a fundamental tool used at 7ACRES to guide the product quality standards of the brand. From January 2018 to January 2020, Pete led Supreme’s product innovation strategies in addition to authoring, ideating and presenting consumer and trade education initiatives.
In January 2020, Pete took the position of Senior Category Manager at the OCS where he manages the dried flower portfolio.
